The role of the rotator interval capsule in passive motion and stability of the shoulder.

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to characterize the role of the capsule in the interval between the supraspinatus and subscapularis tendons with respect to glenohumeral motion, translation, and stability. We used a six-degrees-of-freedom position-sensor and a six-degrees-of-freedom force and torque-transducer to determine the glenohumoral rotations and translations that resulted from applied loads in eight cadaver shoulders. The range of motion of each specimen was measured with the capsule in the rotator interval in a normal state, after the capsule had been sectioned, and after it had been imbricated. Operative alteration of this capsular interval was found to affect flexion, extension, external rotation, and adduction of the humerus with respect to the scapula. Modification of this portion of the capsule also affected obligate anterior translation of the humeral head on the glenoid during flexion. Limitation of motion and obligate translation were increased by operative imbrication and diminished by sectioning of the rotator interval capsule. Passive stability of the glenohumeral joint was evaluated with the use of anterior, posterior, and inferior stress tests. Instability and occasional frank dislocation of the glenohumeral joint occurred inferiorly and posteriorly after section of the rotator interval capsule. Imbrication of this part of the capsule increased the resistance to inferior and posterior translation.

Background: The shoulder joint internal rotation deficit is inter alia the most important risk factors for throwing athletes. Thus, the present study aims at investigating the effect of eight weeks of rotator cuff muscles’ specific exercises on the range of motion, proprioception and the activation time of the selective shoulder muscles in male volleyball players with shoulder joint inter...
متن کاملStrength and Range of Motion of Internal and External Rotator Muscles in Volleyball Players With and Without Uneven Shoulders
Objective: Performing repetitive overhead movements puts stress on the shoulder joint, leading to uneven shoulders and pain in the shoulder joint. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the strength and Range of Motion (ROM) of internal and external rotator muscles in volleyball players with and without uneven shoulders. Methods: This is a descriptive and causal-comparative stud...

Objective Generalized joint hypermobility predisposes some individuals to a wide variety of musculoskeletal complaints, especially in the shoulder joint. Proprioception, which includes joint position sense and sense of movement, has an important role in the functional stability of shoulder joint. Given the critical role of proprioception in the functional stability of shoulder, the primary aim ...

Purpose: Most studies have examined the effect of stretching and strength exercises on the glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint), on the other hand, due to the importance of the relationship between core stability and pectoral girdle, especially in archery athletes, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of six weeks of core stability exercises on the glenohumeral joint internal rota...
متن کاملThe Effect of Static Magnet Therapy on Pain-Free Shoulder Passive Range of Motion in Patients with Shoulder Subluxation after Stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Introduction: One of the stroke complications is hemiplegia, which can cause subluxation of the shoulder joint and reduce the passive range of motion of the affected shoulder, resulting in limited movement. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of static magnet therapy on pain-free shoulder passive range of motion in patients with shoulder subluxation after stroke. Methods: This clinical tri...
